Commuting by bicycle can save you lots of money
While commuting by bicycle will not always save you time, it will save you money.
Gas savings
Similarly to a car, there is an initial cost for a bicycle. However the cost of a reliable commuter bike is a fraction of the cost of a reliable car. Unlike a car, you do not have to buy gas for your bicycle. As gas prices surge over time, the savings of bike commuting become more and more obvious.
Health benefits
Exercising is known to keep humans healthy. Excercising daily is even better. Commuting by bike provides a daily opportunity for low heart rate activity, which is to athletes as "Zone 2". When zone 2 exercise is done regularly, it provides great aerobic benefits for people, increasing endurance. Having good lungs and endurance will definitely save you money in the long term, be it potenetial health benefits in the long run.
Things to note
While the benefits of bike commuting are shining, there are potential draw backs which should be noted. Firstly, biking on shared roads is innately dangerous, especially with a growing number of distracted driving. Luckily, there are systems in place to mitigate these risks. The first step would be riding in a bike lane if available. If not, ride near the edge of the road, but keep an eye for cars parked in the way. Also, the use of hand signals for turning and stopping can provide communication with other vehicles on the road. Like a car, one must also stay focused on the road, and not get distracted with technology
